LITTLE BOXES THAT MAKE ME HAPPY

{DISCLAIMER I:}

I am not paid in any way to endorse any of this stuff.

{DISCLAIMER II:}

I do not own or operate a studio proper. I am a studio. Everywhere I go can become a studio, and everywhere I work ends up being a studio (if it isn't a studio before I get there). If you're curious about some 'real' studios that I like, they can be found within the links. If you're interested in working in a barn or an attic or an abandoned missile silo, I can do that, too.

RECORDING

Most of my work is based a Studer 169 console, with Metric Halo interfaces and Logic Pro 9. However, I have spent the better part of a decade working with ProTools, and I am comfortable working with both RADAR and analog tape. If something records and plays back noises, I can usually figure it out.

When working at home, I enjoy using Focal / Yamaha monitors and Grado / Sony headphones along with a number of other hi-fi (and low-fi) stereo systems.

MICROPHONES

I own a very modest collection of microphones, which includes the standard 'workhorse' favorites (Shure, Sennheiser, Electro-Voice, etc) and some more esoteric options (Oktava, Sony, Reslo). In the event that a 'fancy' microphone is needed, I generally rent / borrow them from somewhere. I also have a small pile of 'junk' microphones from old tape recorders and other devices that have proven very useful on many occasions.
